About me

I have a passion for education and especially for ensuring that all of us continue to apply what we have learned.  I am excited about the opportunity that the Lounge provides for all of us to discuss how we are applying what we have learned & to share those great ideas.

I have had a varied background from secondary education to corporate training & now working in the career college sector.  But while I have moved in different circles it has always been surrounding my passion of education.  I look forward to our conversations.

Kelly, this is a troublesome area to me too. In general, I've found Gen Y learners less willing to really learn for learning sake, but rather they tend to want a lot of spoonfeeding. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Heather, this is very true. Gen Yers are very accustomed to frenetic lives & so we do need to keep the classes moving quickly & forward. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Lynne, this helps greatly as students venture into areas in which they are less familiar & are more complicated. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Joyce, yes, these really are great techniques to assist with retention & memory recall. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Alan, yes & this can also help them learn how to form teams quickly & tap into the skills of those around them. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Joyce, the different colors of paper can also be used to connect with different topics or concepts in the course as well & these can help the students keep things distinct & separate. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Richard, this is a very common disability & this is a great method to help those students who struggle in this area. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Donna, these are all great strategies for working with students who may be struggling. As you pointed out, the key is to have them admit they are struggling & seek our help. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Richard, yes & this can also provide a great opportunity for discussion & even some role playing, scenario discussion with the students to help them with application. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Dustin, this is so true & I believe we can be most successful in doing this when we demonstrate that we care & are willing to take the time to help them. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
