Katina, Organization is key. Without that, other things will be lost "in the shuffle." I also like that you mentioned the feedback and technology. We need to stay current on both of those as well. Thanks!
Paulette, Well, we all have to work with what we have. Our university doesn't require it, but I do. And, I can do that. Thanks for your input.
Daniel, I like variety too. It gives us a broad perspective instead of just a narrow look into the course. Thanks for your input.
Daniel, Right on! If the students don't know what they are working toward, they may not continue to work. Thanks!
Laura, Yes! You, as the instructor, set the stage of your class. Therefore, professional communication is essential. Nice job.
Laura, Cost, being compatible, and ease of use are excellent choice. There are so many things to discuss when it comes to communication tools, but student have to be able to use it and it has to be easy to use - otherwise - they simply won't use it. Good point.
Paulette, Timing can be everything. I typically plan 4 synchronous meetings at different times of day, different days of the week, etc. and students are required to attend 2. Then, they can plan ahead.

Dianne, Knowing what the students are coming to you with (e.g., experience, knowledge, etc.) is a great thing to start with. Many times I just ask my students to complete a quick survey and ask a few key questions so I can learn more about them. Thanks!

Dianne, How would I handle authoring the online course? I would work through an online meeting program to meet with an online instructional designer, if available, and work with the Learning Management System to set everything up. Does this answer your question?

Kerstin, Excellent point! We can talk faster than we can type. Thanks for the pointer. Nice job.
