About me

I currently serve as the Vice President of Business Solutions for Bridgepoint Education. In my present role, I provide guidance to the company's ground based and online colleges to optimize their operations while staying within regulatory guidelines.

I have over 22 years of experience in the education industry. My experience encompasses virtually all aspects of the education business, including admissions, financial aid, academics, career services, and management of multi-campus operations. I’ve held senior level management positions at Career Education Corporation, MedVance Institute and the University of Phoenix (Apollo Group) as well as providing consulting services to a multitude of colleges and universities during my tenure with Campus Management Corporation.

My focus has been on campus start ups, regulatory compliance, process improvement, and operational oversight of multiple campus colleges, including international campuses. I recognize the challenges of working in a highly regulated environment that has grown more complex as companies have expanded operations, either organically or through acquisition, to include multiple regulatory bodies and governing oversight entities.

I hold a B.S. degree in Business from Arizona State University and an M.A. degree in Organizational Management from the University of Phoenix. I have completed the Apollo Group's Executive Development Program and the Career College Association's (now APSCU) Leadership Institute.

Racquel - I like to see this involvement from the academic program directors to answer such questions.
Great point, Susan, to notify graduates of new programs which may not have been avaiable during their time at your school.
I'm glad to see people referencing graduates, in addition to current students, as graduates are great examples of successful completion of specific programs.
DeVaria - this sounds like a great way to welcome referrals from existing students. Thanks for sharing.

Robert - I like your commitment to such open and honest transparency!
I agree - the easier it is to immediately see a reference to DNC and/or having the number blocked reduces risk of accidental calls to those protected by this regulation.

Marie - I'm always happy to hear of people referencing the catalog regularly. It's typically a great source for answers!Referencing it directly reduces risk of confusion that some have if they have heard/seen it in multiple places with slight variances in verbiage.
Great suggestion, Pat. I often think alumni are overlooked as a resource as many schools focus on new enrollees and current students for referrals. Graduates should be the ideal referral source since they have completed the program and hopefully put their training to good use!
Timothy - unfortunately, it seems that the deeper I dig into regulations, the more I find. I think one of the biggest challenges ahead for schools, especially those providing education in multiple states, will be keeping up-to-date on each of the differing state regulations and trying to align those with relevant federal regulations. I suspect more states will expand their scope of oversight which creates a lot of administrative burden for schools to maintain. Distance education providers will be most impacted as they typically offer education in many states.
Another great point - while signed acknowledgements may be helpful, it doesn't change the fact that students may still be unhappy. The clearer the understanding up front, the better.
