Carrie, Sounds like the old plan is still proving to be useful. It is important to constantly review the plan to see how you are doing and what changes have to be made. We think Plans are dynamic tools to see how things are going and stimulate new ideas. It is also a way to get your entire Team working on the same road and goals. Thanks, Susan Dr. Susan Schulz
jeff, Thanks for the feedback. It is amazing the impact Alumni make on a school. The time and effort Alumni are willing to give often offsets salary costs, for example. Alumni want to make a difference in their school - another reason that all students should have a great experience and want to maintain their involvement. Many alumni directors tell us the increase in enrollment, retention, job openings, and lots more as a result of their Alumni Communities. MaxKnowledge offers an online alumni course facilitated by one of the best Alumni Community directors. Susan Dr. Susan Schulz
Paul, TV and radio are often a challenge. We find it takes a lot of measuring and monitoring to ensure qualified students, who enroll, are attracted. Web based initiatives are a great way to reach a broad audience. It is also important to reach your targeted audience - those people who will want to enroll in your programs. Great that you are using advisory boards. Chosen well you get great advice at little to no costs. thanks, susan Dr. Susan Schulz
Paul, Great to be active in the area Chambers. Have you checked out other groups like Rotary and also organizations related to the careers you teach to. Your school and each group can be great resources to the other. Reminder to appropriately publicize your success and news stories. Be sure they are current and interesting to get the attention of media editors. Keeping your school name in the front of your community can be a full time job. Thanks, Susan Dr. Susan Schulz
Rocio, Great to belong to chambers. You might also look at other organizations where you can talk about your school or the careers you teach to. Hosting events at your school can be very effective. It is important to give guests a great experience, make it interesting and informative, and serve nice refreshments. It's all about reaching out to the community in many many ways and building relationships for now and the future. Listen to what people tell you. They have clues to upgrading your programs and adding new ones. Thanks, Susan Dr. Susan Schulz
Rocio, Culinary schools, by their nature, offer so many fun opportunities for publicity, placement, and a lot of attention from the community. This is a super Mock interview! Great idea for students to see how well they did in learning the course objectives. It probably gives more meaning to their studies. Wonderful idea to involve all instructors in the job search skills process. Sometimes they just have to be coached on how to. Sounds like you have figured it out. Thanks Dr. Susan Schulz
Rocio, Sounds great. A true brainstorming session generates a lot of ideas. Suggest you create an open environment where every idea is treated with enthusiasm. It usually encourages more ideas. Let us know your innovations. Susan Dr. Susan Schulz

Rocio, How lucky to work in a new school where you can set up student and placement services correctly from the start. Yes, it is important to engage students in employment and job search skills starting with the admissions process on. These skills take time to learn and to build confidence. An informed student is typically a successful student and will get placed in a job that matches their training. It simply takes time and a series of learning experience to be prepared. We don't think that workshops and job search skills training should be an option. It is interesting… >>>

Rocio, Great idea to have placement and admissions work together. Prospective students want to know about the jobs they will get. Why not have Career Services involved during the interview process? In fact, we know schools who combine career services with admissions in the same office. It works. Placement activities and results gets a lot of attention from prospective students. Thanks, Susan Dr. Susan Schulz

Rocio, Great. We agree that great placement rates say a lot about the institution. It sounds like you spend a lot of time on Community Outreach in a variety of ways. We think Community Outreach is essential for a school. Your placement department is doing a great job by working with students from the beginning. You are right that working with students on employment and job search skills improves retention. Career services should definitely be involved with the admissions department. Prospective students think mostly about the job they can get. It seems you have figured a lot out for new… >>>
