We think it is essential that someone from your school be assigned Community Outreach. The job is to visit with every employer and potential employer for a variety of reasons. These include finding out how your grads are doing in the work place and to determine what will make them work ready for each company. Also to find out who the hiring decision makers are and how to find out about jobs first. Thanks, Susan
We also believe that. There are many ways placement impacts on enrollment. When you reach out to employers and potential employers for jobs you also have the opportunity to see if those companies have training needs for their employees. There's a huge source for students among working people. And many times the company will pay for the employee's tuition. Thanks, Susan
You are right. It is essential, in our opinion, to talk about placement at the same time admissions reps are explaining the benefits of training and going to your school. It is very important to have very explicit details about your placement services and where grads work prominently on your website. When prospective students check out schools they consider attending, it is more likely they will visit the one that talks about the placement services. Schools that offer Alumni Associations also jump to the top of the list. Susan

Great strategies Patricia. We know of a school that has the placement and admissions people sit in the same office and new students are definitely part of the tour! And you are right - everyone on staff Must be placement and career services oriented. That's why people enroll - to get a job and to prepare for being successful in the job market. For that reason you are right that employment skills training Must start long before graduation day. We think there should be a career services course for every semester or term the student is enrolled. The focus on… >>>

Yes Alba - can you imagine if all your students enrolled because of word of mouth? You would have an amazing school where students are satisfied, successful and get great jobs. And your school has a great community outreach program where you are in ongoing dialogue with employers and potential employers. And students find out about your school because you have a great reputation in the community. It can be a reality. Susan
Good idea to have your students visit outside of school and also attend events where they can show off their skills. Hopefully they always wear tee shirts with your school name and website and you hand out information about your programs. thanks, Susan
You point out the reason to have an active community outreach program. Suggest that you have one person on staff out in the community continually talking with both employers and prospective employers. You will learn a lot about what makes an ideal grad, what job openings there are, and if company employees need training that you offer. Thanks, Susan
We also agree that placement needs to stay in close touch with the admissions department. In fact, we believe that the placement and admissions departments should be together. Students enroll in order to work. They really don't care a lot about the program. It's all about where they will work. So the more information they get during the enrollment process the more likely they will enroll and stay through graduation. This is where alumni can help by talking to people considering enrolling in your school. Thanks, Susan
We totally agree, Luis. We feel that employment skills training should be required and should be offered all during the students enrollment at school. In that way they learn the skills and gain the confidence needed to begin the job search. There are so many skills that can be taught and so many resources. Ask your alumni to help out too. Thanks, Susan
Keeping in touch is the key to developing and maintaining relationships with employers. Ideally you have their emails in a database so you can easily send out interesting and informational emails. We think that email, phone calls, and in person appointments are all a way to learn what the employer wants in a work-ready grad and for the employer to see your school as a great resource. Thanks, Susan
