Ubaldo, Interesting point. You might want to think more about the impact of placement services on the rest of the school. For example, how can placement statistics and services help the admissions department. What information can you provide admissions to help them talk effectively with prospective students. How can great placement affect student retention. Hint - when students see that grads get jobs they are often motivated to complete training. And how does placement impact on your school. Another hint - if you don't achieve required placement stats you will have a problem with your regulatory bodies. So suggest you… >>>

HI Tasha, The resume as the final project may be a bit late. Students should be working on employment skills training throughout their studies. In our opinion studnets should also be in touch with career services on a continual basis. The staff at career services need to be coaching and assisting grads until they have jobs. Thanks, Susan
Very good point, Jennifer. We believe that students need to complete employment skills projects weeks or months before graduation. Focus on the job search should be an everyday happening. Waiting until just before the student graduates is way too late. The student has to have a job search mind set throughout their studies. It takes a long time to build skills and confidence. Thanks, Susan
Great that 90% complete career services assignments. What about the other 10%? Have you tracked success based on completing the assignments? Thanks, Susan
Great that employment skills training is in the classroom. That's definitely a place where it should be. Tells students that the whole job search process needs to be learned and there are skills needed. Ideally the students have good rapport with their instructors and are comfortable asking questions about looking for a job and what it is like on the job. The instructors ideally work in the field and can give the students first hand info. Thanks, Susan
That's great news. There are Workforce offices throughout the U.S. Great idea for all of us to check to see if there is a knowledgable Job Developer on staff. And then see if the person is willing to work with you on career and employment skills. Thanks for the good info.
This sounds great Marcia. Can you get the job title of this person. There may be a similar person in other communities. He sounds like a great resource. But whether he does exist elsewhere, we should all be able to find people like this who can assist in a variety of ways. It might take several people, but it all points to reaching out to our communities. There are many mutual interests between career schools and the needs of the community. It takes communicating. Thanks, Susan
This sounds great Jennifer. Now think of doubling the employment skills training. Probably sounds like a lot. But you are teaching skills as well as developing self confidence and that takes time. Thanks, Susan

Very true Jennifer. The reality is that most prospective students really want to know about where they are getting a job. Few are truly interested in the course work. They just want to graduate. That's a reason we think the Placement Department should be part of Admissions. Or at least the school tour should include a visit to Career Services. Placement stats do more to enroll a student than most other facts. The focus is not only on getting a job but the quality of the job. Takes as much student preparation to get a job as to train for… >>>

Community outreach initiatives are really important and have a lot of different looks. All good. The goal is to develop and maintain relationships with employers, potential employers, and go to places where you can meet potential students and hiring decision makers. Your programs sound great. It is really important to have volunteer aspects to your program, and events that are publicize-able both before, during, and after. Radio and TV often offer schools public service time re your training and class starts. Lots of opportunities. Get your entire school to participate and you'll have lots of ideas. Thanks for sharing.
