I agree Kristin. What are some of the expectations you would include for faculty and students? Tina
Yes, I agree Angela. Online requires a lot more monitoring of the environment. Tina
Hi Angela, I agree. They really want to be heard, so allowing them the opportunity and then making them responsible for the solution can be very effective. Tina
Hi Joan, I think the structure of the course has an impact on the number of learners you can have. For instance, by organizing learners into groups or cohorts and using learner group leads to monitor and facilitate discussions, you can manage a larger group of learners. Tina
Hi Jeff, I like the idea of asking them to come up with 2-5 discussion questions that are relevant. I might add that are relevant and can demonstrate the stated outcomes for the activity! Tina
Hi Martha, that is the same situation in our institution. Although there is additional support, the instructor bears the greatest responsibility. Tina
Hi Angela, we have a 24 hour turn around time. It is difficult for learners to carve out time to engage in course activities, so we try to respond as quickly as possible, so they can get their questions answered. Tina
Hi Angela, our faculty utilize the Paul Elder critical thinking model to engage in the discussions, which focuses on the "Elements of Thought" and helping learners think critically as they engage in discussion topics. Tina
Hi Rebecca, it makes perfect sense. Many times after we have stopped proactive communications, learners will contact the faculty wanting to re-engage and our faculty will try to work with the learner to help them get caught up. Tina
Hi Rebecca, I agree. When learners post their fears often I see other learners replying back that they have the same fears and they try to comfort the learner, which helps to alleviate some of their anxiety. Tina
