Evaluations
The most important aspect of assessments is on day one “ensure the student clearly understands how their performance is going to be evaluatedâ€. Once the student understands the standards – it is up to the student to earn the grade. This allows each student the opportunity to develop their time management skills and demonstrate their professional responsibilities.
Hi Adelaida:
Evluation really are for only one thing: that is to measure to what degree or how close to ahieving the course objectives a student's performance weighed in.
Of course, students require grades, so I suppose that's another reason, and needed to assure there is objectivity in the measurement of student performance.

All of these are explained to the students at the beginning of a module therefore they know what to expect. It is up to them to follow the rules and make use of their time properly, organization also helps.
Hi Abraham:
Evaluations measure learning, or the degree to which a student has learned. Aligning assessments with course objectives is best, if that was was was taught in the class.
I've given a pretest prior to the real test to see how close the students have mastered material. Whben their are weaknesses, we work on those prio to the real test. I also review the test immediately following the test to reinforce correct answsers and dispel incorrect responses.

I look at evaluation as a unique oportunity for students to show me the assessment on class content and a way to motivate them to get through the main objectives of the course.
Hi Christopher:
Good point. Sometimes when a student fails a class, I have to remind my faculty that the "student failed themselves, not the teacher". What I mean is, as you say, if there is a clear understanding at the outset, it's up to the student to earn the points that result in grades.
Hopefully, the grading system and evaluations that are used are fair, balanced to the other assignments, and measure performance.
