Hard-Copy versusElectronic Mark Copies
I think both are complementary and "necessary now". Hard copy is baseline. Electronic copy is a "boon" to students, allowing them daily access to, and an "overall view" of their performance. The "overall view" is an "eye-opener" for some. However, some students have poor computer skills and do not easliy access electronic markbooks, so I carry an up-dated, class copy of the electronic marks with me so I can immediatley furnish them to students, if they ask.

I also use both hard copy and electronic gradebooks. My students don't look at their e-mail let alone electronic grades. I do think electronic gradebook is so much more efficient.
Hi Kathleen:
As an instructor that uses the electronic version, I can tell you, it is so much more convenient and expedient for both student and instructor alike.

Hi Mark:
You describe the value of electronic copies well. I think most would agree that the electronic version is so much more efficient and quicker for student feedback purposes.

I have students that have never accessed their mandatory emails so I don't think an electonic gradebook will help. I think they would still rather ask me what their grade is instead of looking it up themselves.
