paper vs electronic
I always use an electronic gradebook and it has worked well for me. I started using both, paper in class, then updating the electronic file when I got home, but realized it was double work for me and not effective. Instead, the result is to immediately update my electronic gradebook after class and stay disciplined. I've cut down the time in going back and forth, & am more efficient with my time.
Godwin,
Students like the access to grades that the EGB provides such as the immediate feedback. Also, if there are errors, students can discuss the problem with their instructor while the material is still current.

Electronic grade book is a blessing It makes everything easy and gives me enough time to better prepare for my class.
Hi Kenan:
These electronic grading ststems are great. I feel we still need to make sure we spend face to face time with students to offer the "personal touch".

Hi Leslie:
If students have access to computers, grade information should be just as portable. Plus, once grades are entered they're instantly available for students to view. We shuld also plan to periodically review performance with students one on one in addition to the self serve electronic methods.

My first few years teaching I used a paper version to record students' grades. I converted to an electronic version last year and wouldn't do it any other way. We are required to have our grades posted within 24 hours of the final. I teach evenings and now have my grades posted before I leave for the evening. This includes grading the final and incorporating these grades into the final grades. The electronic versions available to us are great.
I'm learning to use electronic grade-book now. Although, I prefer the portability of the paper book.
I am new and used the paper gradebook, however the blocks are extremely small. I guess it just takes getting used to, but I think I'll try the electronic method in addition to the paper method.
Back in the "old days," I used paper records. Now, I use a corporate supplied, corporate required spreadsheet for grades and for recording the students' attendance, tardies, and leave-early behaviors. The spreadsheet includes individualized student advising forms, but our system lacks the access for students, so I use the paper once again, printing out the advising sheets.
I have always used an electronic gradebook, too, Desiree. My students are able to access their grades and attendance records through our school's online Student Portal.
I agree - instructor discipline is necessary when using this gradebook format. I walk to my computer and enter grades immediately after each class session ends; that way, my students always have up-to-date information available to them.
