make up work
our school policy is that missed assignments must be made up or turned in the very next day the student is on campus.
Barbara,
I try to operate with a classroom environment of trust and mutual respect for each others "rules". Besides established guidelines and standards displayed in the syllabus, on day one, I ask what the student expect from me as their ionstructor (grading lessons etc.), and then I share what I expect from them Doesn't solve all problems but limits too many situations where the student will go over my head regarding something they don't like.

we too have that policy, but it difficult to enforce at times as student will run to administration and complain.
Christopher ,
In courses where there is a skill component, simply downgrading for missed labs is not practical. As you imply, there should be clear expectations stated at the beginning of the course what policies will govern missed lab sessions.

In my classes there is a percentage down grade for lecture work missed. Laboratory work missed is a different story. It is explained on the first day of class and often re-mentioned in lecture (Usually before the Lab Exam)that make up Lab Exams are nearly impossible to take and the Instructor and student rgoing to have a lenghthy and often indepth discussion of how any make-up Lab Exam can be done.
Larisa,
In my classes, there is always a percentage downgrade.

Shannon,
Many schools have a similar policy. Some also will downgrade some. I think fairness dictates there be some difference in grading on behalf of the students who were present, prepared for, and took the test as scheduled.

for full credit? or is there a percentage reduction?
