Late Tests

Hi,
Is it alright to give students more than one chance to take a test on the same day? Or should you wait to retest?
Thanks,
Andy

Sudarshan Daniel,
If we're preparing folks for a job, no employer would tolerate habitual late anything. I would discuss this concept, along with an attempt to determine why things are always late. Perhaps there is simple advice you can give. Grade wise, downgrading late work gets the attention of students too.

Barry,
How should an instructor deal with a student who has a habit of turning his/her homework late on a consistent basis and this behavior becomes a pattern ?

Sherry,
Accountability and responsibilty are traits that are wanted and needed by employers. Methods to reinforce their importance can only be helpful.

I take points off for late or missed test and homework it seems to work.

Andrew,
Not sure about retesting at all. I suppose it depends on what school policy is, and under what circumstances the retest is needed. My practice is a missed test due absence has to be taken immediately upon return, and I assign a small percentage downgrade. Retesting for academic work in not common. However, it makes perfect sense to retest poor performance with lab and skills activities, as we are wanting students to perfect their demonstration of tasks and skill.
