Jamie,
I follow a similar process. And I solict any and all students to come for tutoring or remediation. In my classes, anyone who falls below a 75% is required to attend remediation (until their grade rises above 75%). 70% is passing, but I strive to have students achieve at least 80%. Unfortunately usually only the "A" students voluntarily come to tutoring.

Students have a right to know how they are doing in a class. They probably have an idea already, but your evaluation can confirm that. If kept up with throughout the course it can be a great tool for success for the student who thinks they are doing well but actually needs to step it up.

The students need to know where their current grades are because it keeps them engaged in ere work. I will have my test graded the next day and posted on line so the students can see it. This keeps the student up to date and also keeps me on top of the students that are struggling in the class. With the struggling students I can pull them and discuss tutoring to keep up with class.

Ronald,
I believe students appreciate the time we instructors take to personally share grade and class perfomance information. It helps establish rapport, trust, and respect.

I beleive that students should know how they are doing whenever they ask. I periodically give them mid term grades and if they ask for their grades at ant time I can find out within 10 minutes from my computer.

Shiketheia,
Electronic grading really helps. When added with some personal contact, advice and encouragement, students ought to feel we care and want them to be successful. Also, we are there soley for them.

Students like to know where they stand in the class. We have a tool called engrade that we use and the students have their own password access to go in at anytime to see how they are standing in their classes. I try to be very punctual on posting grades so students can know how well or bad thy have done on something.

Robert,
If grades and course performance is valued as a measure of the students learning at various frequencies, it is essential that the "barometer" of progress thus far is timely. Delays in sharing grades can hinder the instructional progress, especially if students are unaware of incorrect information, mistakes made, or errors in thinking or understanding. The more frequent, the better.

Keeping students up to date in their grades really helps them achieve short term goals. if you have a test and dont return the test for two weeks, many of the students might have a hard time remebering the material , much less what the correct answers where.
If you feel that grades are important, show the students they are, and grade them immediatly

Sylinda,
Sharing grade information tells the students where they're at, provides a means to offer suggestions or advice, and personalizes the instructor/student relationship.

Students need to be able to keep up with their progress at all times.

Tania,
Yes, and the instructive words of of a caring instructor can be a great comfort, also helping to build rapport, trust, and respect.

Yes, I have had poor grade students improve greatly when they become aware of their standing, and it can also motivate good grade students to continue on the path they are already on.

Ana,
Yes, and treating the sharing of grade information as an important activity will be appreciated by students. Advice, suggestions, and how to approach the class to achieve a successful completion helps reinforce mutual trust and respect, as it conveys everyone is working towards the same goal.

Stephanie,
Most students appreciate the time and effort by their instructor to share grade information. When done personnally, 1-on-1, it can help establish a stronger relationship, and can allow the instructor to also be encouaging, supportive, and give advice if the student is open to receiving it.

It is not only important to teach students the content of your class, but to help them improve their study and organizational skills. Keeping students informed of their grade on a weekly basis is important because it makes them aware of "the big picture" and shows them the payoff for their hard work. In addition, students can learn about how to keep track of their grades by taking an extra step as an instructor to explain how to determine their grade. Informing students of their status in the course also shows them that you are a caring instructor determined to help them succeed.

It allows the students to gauge where they are in the course and the knowledge of the course at all times.

Jacquvalon,
Students value getting grade information, and giving it early on and regularly will help most because there will be more time if correction or adjustments in study habits are needed.

I helps to let the students know where they stand and where they need to go as far as their grades for the course.

Alan,
Right. Like all of us, I agree we do better when we have a bearing on where we're at in the journey, and what remains to make it to the destination successfully.
