have your classroom ready
I see so many instructors coming in shortly bebore class starts, which makes me wonder how one can be ready for class. i for one like to be there at least one hour in advance, so i can prep for my leccture and demo. and yes , sometimes it will not take an hour to do so, but at least i feel comfortable and ready to start class
Hi Stuart:
Yeah, it only takes one or two times to be caught off guard with some delay and that should be enough for anyone to want to avoid reliving a repeat performance.

I think this swell. You must be an exceptional instructor. However, I think the most important idea is to be prepared and fluid. Everybody has had those days when the copy machine is broken, the trains late, or you've forgoten materials. An instructor who knows there material should be able to walk in and give a good lecture and have a plan B.
Hi David:
Yes, establishing both the stuidents and your expectations.

Some very good points are given in the feedback. Having the classroom ready to go also sends a message to the students especially on the first day for establishing their expectations.

Hi Donald:
Someone said "you can never be too prepared". A famous muscian once said "I practice 6 hours every day. If I miss one day I notice the difference. If I miss two days, my audiance notices it". Perhaps, so it is with teaching.

I agree we have that problem. I get all my coping and go over anything need for the day. Then when the room is open I get the room ready.
Hi Walter:
I suppose different schools and their scheduling practices vary quite a bit. For instance, sometimes a classroom is in use just immediately prior to the next scheduled session needed by another instructor. But getting ready can be done somewhere other than the classroom in many cases. So, your point is a good one.
