Preparing yourself for the classroom

It helps you to be ready for the students&put the students in the learnig mode.

Lynn,
Great. This ememplies what many students expect. And even if they don't expect it, they appreciate it when we are there for them.

Barry Westling

I always arrive 15 minutes before the start of the class to greet students and see if they have any questions about the course material. I have all the material prepared ahead of time for the students.

Hi Carol:
I always found that creating assignments, grading them, then returning them to the student helped me identify them, especially if I say their name outloud when I give the assignment back to them.

Regards, Barry

Hi LaToya:
Super! I think it's terrific when students arrive to class their instructor is there waiting for them, all materials ready, resources planned, activities scheduled, outline of the day on the board - ready to go. This suggests to students you are ready, and conveys the expectations you have for their preparedness too.

Regards, Barry

I agree that it does help to be prepared for class daily. I always try to have test made in advance as well as any handouts or pop quizzes. I make sure that I review (read) over my theory lesson in advance so that I will have a better understanding of how I plan to teach the chapter throughout the week. I also review application techniques so that when I am performing my demonstrations they will be as close to the videos as possible.

In addition I always prepare for my class by going over the students' names on my roster and noting any identifying characteristics to allow me to remember their names. By day two of a reasonable size (12) class I at least know their first names. I feel this imparts to them the fact that I am a professional and that I respect them as individuals.

Being totally prepared for the class just models the professionalism that you are trying to instill in the students and starts the class with a positive note.

Arrive early for your students because sometimes that is the time when students may wish to ask questions for clarification that thaey may be too shy to ask in front of the full class.

I always review the material before class and make sure that I am familiar with the material

I always arrive early to make sure I have all printed material ready to distribute for the days class. I also give myself time to review my instructional plan for the day and make any adjustments due to how quickly or slow the class lessons are going. Finally I make sure all instructional hands on aids are within easy reach.
