Teachers - the best visual aid ever........Students, the best audience

I remember fully well what my teacher told us in one of our education classes. That the Teacher is the number 1 or the best visual aid you can provide in a classroom setting.
No matter what kind of visual aids, lesson plans, strategies for Plan Bs, in case Plan A won't work, it is always the teacher who can "adlib" her presentation in the classroom. I also learned that a teacher must be versatile, like, a performer. Nobody will prompt us when we forget our lines, however, if we have a "prompter" like a readymade powerpoint presentations, or even an index cards, or even a short story, then we, as teachers, can save the monotony of a boring lecture, or bored students gong in and out of the classroom. I always carry with me real life cases taken from the website to reenforce my lecture, or an interesting 2 - 5 seconds case scenarios from the websites, or you tubes. Technology has much to offer for teachers, we can reinvent them to our advantage.
In essence, we, teachers, dashed with versatility, are the best visual aid, ever..
Versatility in the classroom must be projected as we navigate the learning process.
The classroom, is the best stage, that any teacher and student, can perform and learn together.

Juanito,
Right. The expert in the room is the teacher. And although there may be resourses and activities that supplement what is used to teach, I think the teacher is the consumate coordinator of the class and these resources, and what positive outcomes occur is related to how well the teacher chooses to facilitate what is available.

I could not agree more when you said that the teacher is the best visual aid in the class. There are so many visual aids that the instructor can use but the best one is his or her own body language in class. The students pay special attention to our facial expressions , tone of voice , gestures and body movements.
We have to make good use of all these body resources or tools to keep the students attentive and focused to what we are lecturing , explaining or talking about. A little bit of humor will help too. And it is also about eye contact. Make sure that the students see that you see them all the time during the lecture.

Michael,
Yep! It just goes to prove that we are all original and unique versions of ourselves. Being honest and sincere, however that manefests is aurthentic, and I think students respond favorably to that kind of personality.

Reflecting back to a teacher I once had,and who I think I have learned the most from.
He was totally unpredictable, threw every bit of himself into whatever topic he was teaching. Acted so bizarre that you would constantly focus on him just to see what crazy thing he would do next, yet could not help but listen and adsorb what was being taught.
That's being the BEST Visual Aid. Thanks Mr. K...

Hi Emma:
That's so true! Instructors often have to become performers to keep the students engaged in the material.
