Guest speaker
We normally do this when we need a detailed discussion on a certain topic like "Diagnostic Procedures" done by physicians in the hospital assisted by sonographers that we don't do in the campus. Examples are breast biopsy, hysterosonography, amniocentesis and many others. The physician who really does these procedures in the hospital can really discuss this topic thoroughly, simply and with a better understanding for students especially when accompanied by a demo. Students will appreciate these because they start to become aware of their role as sonographers in the field.
I really recommend guest speakers to visit our schools.
Karina,
Even if students immediately appreciate it, there is so much value and benefit to the learning process in scheduling a guest speaker. Often, the speaker will reinforce or confirm much of what may have been covered in class, and goes to add credibilty to the teacher. That real world point of view can create great hope and motivation to students. Even recent grads can come back to speak, and they usually bring an enthusiastic tone of excitement about brighter futures.

Having a guest speaker is an excellent way to provide current, realistic expertise on a critical topic, as well as increase the perceived value students receive from your class.
Hi Romeo,
Great! I believe a good guest speaker is worth their weight in gold, as they can contribute enhanced understanding, answer questions to students in an informal manner, and convey information that might otherwise may be missed (as you point out). Speakers can have a topic in mind or at our request, we can ask they talk about whatever, but be sure to include this, this, and this. To the students, this helps reinforce points the teacher has stressed in the course.
