Preparing yourself for the classroom
I look forward to coming up with new and exciting new things to get my students motivated. I usually spend some time researching new ideas to get my students excited! about the course. I make sure my lesson plan, syllabus and copies are all ready before class.
Denise,
Being unprepared is like waiting for problems to occur. And usually it's not if, but when.

I never thought about preparation/organization and how that might be tied into a student view of our competence. Makes sense....all the more reason to be sure we are prepared.
Deanna,
Classes do flow smoother when we are prepared. Transitioning from point to point appears seamless and together, as is the impression by the students of their instructor.

I try to have everything ready to go for each class ahead of time. This helps the class time be organized and flow better. More material can be covered efficiently when presented in an organized manner. This helps me come across as being very knowledgable in my area of instruction.
Nicole,
This sounds great, and your students will appreciate the effort, I'm sure. A good impression is created by being prepared, and students learn this is the expectation, and perhaps will follow in cimilar manner.

As an instructor, if I'm not prepared, I can't expect my students to be prepared. Therefore, I like to be very organized with my lesson plans in advance so that I am ready for anything!
Mitali,
Yes, I too notice that students are quick to pick up the degree of readiness of their instructor. And it does have an impact on how they perceive their instructors competence.

Regina,
Readiness is so important. It affects the instructor, the students, and is an offense against our employer if we come unprepared.

Carmencita,
Awesome! Enthusiasm and passion are a hard act to follow. Usualy students pick up on the instructors upbeat preparation and readiness.

I've noticed that coming prepared for a class, helps students to be organized and prepared for class and motivates the student. students are very observant and feel secure when they know that the instructor has everything well covered and organized.
I find that when I am prepared for the class, the students feed off of that and it helps them to mentally prepare for the class session. I notice that if I don't have any thing prepared, the students feed off of that too in terms of they don't have the motivation to do anything because I come in unprepared so in their minds, why should they.
