personality
what is your Teaching personality?...I can be fun and silly and serious at the same time!
Roger,
Injecting our personality provides a framework for what students can expect in a class. For me, I'm firm about expectations, and try to be approachable, patient, helpful, and understanding when students need assistance.

I agree, my personality seems to change with class needs. I am mostly light and easy going but will be firm if needed to keep things moving. The key is figuring out what is needed or missing.
Stephanie,
I'm sure all instructors have a basic desire to want to help their students. Some have a natural, welcoming affect, while others are more stoic. I think it's OK to have different kinds of personality traits as long as the students feel their instructor is approachable, patient, courteous and professional.

I've noticed that my personality fluctuates depending on my students, but I typically always have a nurturing personality. Sometimes I'm more firm, other times I'm more flexible; I try to get a feel for what they students need from me at different moments.
Kryste,
I try t make my classes interesting and keep things light when I can, but this is school and, while theres a place for humor and levity, theres also a significant portion where serious focused study and attention is required for success by students.
