Field Trips

I really like the field trip idea. When I was a Medical Assistant student the field trips that we went on were very helpful. How would I go about setting one up for my students.

Tenika,
Sounds simple and straightforward (as it should be). The key is putting some thinking and planning elbow grease into the process. Good experiences lay the foundation for additional events. Even less than wonderful experiences can be helpful by assessing what was undesirable.

I found the best way to set up trips is to create relationships with local places and follow the school's policy

Racheal,
Larger cities often have a medical society or even city/county museums that have at least some component of medical history from years past. Great examp-le of a memorable experience students are not likely to forget.

Other fun field trips for healthcare related classes are Medical Museum's. I use to take my students to a great Museum on the last day of school. It showed them where Medicine had come from and some of the hopes for the future (and hopefully the students future too).

Aliela,
One way to think about possible field trips is to examine your curriculum with an eye for "where does this occur objective occur?" Salespersons, vendors, manufactures, and suppliers are also good resources for ideas about field trips. Sometimes specialty hospitals or clinics want to advertise their services so they are willing to conduct field trips for local medical classes.
