Media Selection
If you are using same power point presentation over and over again, it will lose the effectiveness. Students need many variety of the media and must use it sparingly. Just like using music as maybe 15 to 30 percent, You must incoroporate other aspects of teaching. I enjoyed Harvard business school video where Professor Gavin talked about 15, 30 minute block to mix and match to get the feel of the class.
For me, it's all about a variety of repetition. The more ways they can see it, hear it, and experience it, the better. Plus I find that it helps greatly when I have a group of individuals that have different learning styles.
Another interesting "media" I will bring into class is the video camera. The students dread it, but really appreciate it when they see themselves doing a particular task. They sometimes pick up on things easier than me just telling them.
Hi Sonny:
I am a supporter of variety and mixing different media into the instructional plan. It keeps interest of students, helps convey ideas in diiferent ways, addresses differences in learning styles, and maybe more practically, it just makes the class more enjoyable and interesting.
