Visuals

Over the course of teaching the past 11 years, I feel that visuals are extremely effective for learning. They help in retention of information and allows the instructor to repeat by "showing" how things are done.

Joyce,
Visual learning relies on sight and the information that accompanies it. So what you're doing is good. Other teachers also add discussions, practice exercises, and case studies (for instance) in between slides to enhance the visual information displayed on the PPT slide.

I use PP in addition to the book chapter. I refer back and forth as I go along because the PP may skip over certain points and I try to be thorough. So I use them in tandem you could say. Like a tag-team teaching tool.

Hi Rebecca:
Yes, every way that we can add to the existing teaching methods can only help students visualize concepts, principles, and processes. Very nice!

Absolutely! I use PP presentations to assit in the Accounting classes. As they see the movement on the slide they can better understand why this is happening.

Hi Donald:
I think all of us have some "visual learning" in our bones, some perhaps more than others. Introducing visual strategies can only help students, and maybe reach some who who have become uninvolved or having difficulty paying attention.
