Powepoint Presentation
main idea of preparing pointpower is to help students to understand better and give them break down the most important point of the subject.
Trina,
Well formatted PPT's add much to a presentation due to their simplicity. In written papers, it's important to avoid adding unnecessary, filler language that actually diminishes the message. So it is with PPT's. Less is more.

I agree with you..as long as the back ground color and the text can be readable.
Hi Maikel,
Right, the PPT is a guide for discussion - from the instructor, with the students, creating an environment that fosters original thought and questiong "why?".

I think we should focus on main ideas put in power point, because some teachers are not prepared enough for the class and want to put everything in the power point, that's not right, we properly prepare for a class and just show the power the essential point of the class for the student to grasp what we want but it is our responsibility to develop the class properly.
Hi Rochelle,
I believe students learn best when they are given the opportunity to be creative, to show their expertise and knowledge. And when we can offer credit for that, it goes to reinforce more of the same better class work performance.

My class just presented their presentations over the last couple of days. I instructed them if possible to use PP presentations and make sure they are creative. I gave them helpful hints on how to present as well as how to use powerpoint. Because I took the time to assist them and also allowed them to pick their choice of topic (something in the medical field that they are passionate about) they did some amazing presentations. I was thoroughly impressed with their efforts and the confidence they showed as they presented their material. They were not only informative, but extremely creative and even a few had tangible visuals which made for some fun and interesting presentations. Kudo's to my students for their creativity and the ability to follow directions.
Hi Troy,
If I had to rely on restructured, I would add in a lot of other activities between some slides, such as discussions with students, questions why this or that is the way it is, and giving amplification of the content of the slide with white board use, demonstrations, etc. Perhaps you are doing the same.

I work in an environment that the PowerPoint presentations are pre-structured for the subject material. We are not allowed to alter them, so it is always fun to take these pre-structured PowerPoint’s and make them my own.
Kelly,
I believe PPT's can assist the teacher to expand on subjects, but usually it's apart from the PPT. The slide can be used as a guide our outline, but I defer from putting all the information on a slide. I feel that's what I'm there for.

Power points not only highlight important points in a chapter, but also allow you to expand on using examples & real life work experience that students do not get from their books. I have had students get so caught up in lecture that they forgot to take notes.
Hi Guadlupe:
Yes, I have to do that too. Publisher PPT's seem to be more like outline of the chapter. I like to use some of the prpared material, but I also like to prepare and organize my slides to fit my particular spin I want to make.
Regards, Barry
I find that I need to tweek the powerpoints that are generic to fit my class
Hi Cem:
Yes, "giving the main point" aptly describes a good PPT slide. I feel it's the teachers job to elaborate, fill in with additional or supplemental information, or give supporting information. Too many teachers will try to put all of the needed information on a series of slides - and that's probably among the poorest ways to teach and is usually the least interesting way to present information.
