there are many students who need to see more than read. so incorporating lectures and practicals really fills in any caps in teaching

Hi Shanta,
I too believe whenever we can incorporate a hands on activity, students feel engaged, they feel productive, they learn and retain infomation better, we can monitor and assess their performance, and their skills get perfected so that when performing in a real work setting, they appear skilled and knowledgeable.

most students learn by doing and showing although they hear what you are saying they respond better by showing they catch on to the material

Hi Abigail,
Touch is very special. There's just something unique when students can handle something, or operate it, or see it used and use it in a simulated setting. Through observation, the teacher can comment or offer advice, and the student can perfect their skills through the powerful learning tool of repetition!

i think would be a great way to reinforce key terms. perhaps i will assign each student a term at the beginning of class and then ask them to describe the term to the rest of the class at the lecture break.

Hi Patricia,
Good. I think each activity, how minor, that gets students participating, using resources, and thinking about their studies is going to make them better studentents and in the end, better workers.

I haven't tried this yet but this would work great with key terms that are at the front of the chapters that I usually assign as vocab words. By tying them into the oral presentation it would create repetition, reinforcement and very positive learning. Thanks for the idea.

Karen,
Wow, this sounds wonderful! Repetition, reinforcement, and very productive use of time at the end class. Great!
