Having the resources available for proper planning of instruction.
I am finding it hard to obtain the materials needed for instruction. We do not have computers in each classroom for powerpoint presentations. Much of my time is spent borrowing the lead instructor's laptop for my class to hook up to the white board(so glad we have those in the class) and taking it back at the end of the class. Wish we could get more computer resources.
Hi Steven,
In many ways, I believe the best tool is the instructor. All other accessories only amplify what the facilitator has to teach. Our experience, training, education, and knowledge of the profession positions us ideally to convey information that can only come from our past. Like any job, having the right tool makes the job so much easier. But the focus should not be on the tool, nor the faciltator for that matter. The focus is getting the students to achieve the learning designed for the course that's being taught.

Computers are great, but you should be able to deliver the same instruction regardless of their availibility. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy my computer immensely, but often time find that some of the best lessons I deliver do not use the computer whatsoever.
Hi Alnita,
True - however recognizing the need and following through in obtaining the needed resources demonstrates effective instructional planning of optimal student results.

Very much needed in teaching and keeping up with todays technology.
Hi Marlena,
To properly plan, essential tools are the student learning objectives (SLO's) along with a daily plan of delivery. Delevery resources are many, in fact so many, we need to choose among the best ones to assure students achieve the level of learning desired. Sometimes it's a bit of trial and error, but using resources that align with the SLO's provide a good foundation to start from.

I am working now to improve my delivery method without the use of the modern tools. I believe it will help me to expand my knowledge as an instructor while using other methods.
Hi Marlena,
Sounds like this is an institutional issue. But although PPT is a wornderful tool, another approach might be to provide surrogate or alternative methods to convey what you do with PPT. Overheads, flipchart, even handouts can sometimes achieve the same outcome.
