Chalk Board
I am a overhead and chalk board teacher in the classrooms. I can see that I need to keep it cleaner now after going thru this last module... It made a lot of sense to me
Joseph,
Whatever visual tools an instructor uses, that "tool" needs to be functioning and effective for the students.

I have always been a traditional chalkboard teacher. I also appreciate that my board must be both clean and visible at all times. Thanks for the reminder!
Michael,
Wherever they're used, a whiteboard is quite versatile for a teacher to quickly convey some thought, express an idea, jot down terminology or definitions, or one of a hundred other ideas. Using colored markers help add emphasis and contrast (especially for visual learners). And most certainly, it is an indispensable tool for nearly any lab setting.

Dry erase boards are key component for accentuating theorys applied in the lab as well.
James,
For me, whether its chalkboard or whiteboard with dry erase markers, the key to making this tool effective is twofold. One are my notes, comments, illustrations, and emphasis on course topics. The other is what the students do. I try to get students up to the board as frequently as possible. It does put them on the spot a bit, but once they get used to it, they see it helps reinforce what they're trying learn, plus it allows for critical thinking and creativity. There are many ways to incorporate getting students to help facilitate class by using these presentation tools.
