Powerpoint Presentations
I absolutely agreed. Power points presentations are a great media to delivery instructional content to the class. I use at the daily basis.
Linda,
It does take effort and planning on the part of the instructor to keep students interested and engaged. Using variety with media, such as not bombarding students with a whole bunch of information crammed into PPT slides is one method that is effective.

I agree with this statement, I recently completed a graduate course in nursing and the most successful Instructors used a variety of tools for teaching and it kept me very interested in the content.
Carrie,
This is a great way to seamlessly capture the different ways students learn all the while maximizing the available class time. Keeping class interesting is so important. It's possible that even with variety, class session can become routine, so I always mix things up a bit to try to keep it fresh.

I use PP as my main lecture tool, but because we have so many hands on labs, in the same class period they learn in lecture how to perform a task, and then go into lab see it done by the instructor, then they have to preform it as well. It is kind of a learn about it, see it, then do it atmosphere that I feel works very well for our program.
Hossai,
PPT's are mere tools - the instructor has the real work experience and expertise to share with their students.

Yes I love using my powerpoint daily in the classroom, but I also like to use mini demos to make sure they understand everything on the powerpoint.
Carlos,
As educators, all tools that work towards effective, efficient instruction are worthwhile. My only caution is that like any tool, it not be misused or ov erused. A steady diet of the same old-same old can end up being uninteresting.
