Tip! Creative animations in PowerPoint.
Tip! Creative animations in PowerPoint.
Select the clipart you are working on. On the Drawing Tools – Format tab find the Group icon. From the dropdown select Ungroup. Say yes to the “Do you want to convert†dialog box. On the Drawing Tools – Format tab find the icon Group. From the dropdown select Ungroup a second time.
Your clipart is now individual objects. You can move these objects by hand during your presentation, or apply animations from the animations tab. You can also create your own animations by duplicating the slide, moving an object on the second slide, duplicating, moving an object on the third slide…
Elliot,
I think this works because it kind of sneaks up on the student and catches them open to the idea (unexpectedly). It creates a memory because it had a moment of meaning.

First the tip is great; it's a new one for me. To Heather's comment on goofy comics...I have found this is a wonderful memory tool.
I often use a comic character or situation to cement an idea or concept in the student's mind; I find their recall of the idea with a over-the-top visual greatly increases their retention.
Heather,
It's true -- and this reinforces the educational principle about associating something new with something the student already knows or can remember.

I love it! Would make my slides so much more interesting. I am the instructor here known for her goofy (aka "cheesy") comics. The students remember the content around the comic, though!
Victor,
I think this may only be available in newer versions of PPT, although older versions could do it, just with more steps. In any event, this creative tool can create more interesting slides (as long as it's used sparingly). We have to be careful that the slide does not become the focus of the presentation, but only the information contained within the slide.

I have been using animation PowerPoint via the menu for years and never knew this option existed. Can't wait to give this a try!
Terry,
Wonderful tool. I'm going to try that today!
