backup plans for all courses
you should always have a back up plan for any course or lesson that you are instructing. there can be many outside interruptions that will lead to a change in your lesson for the day. EX. a fire alarm, an unscheduled meeting for instructors and or students. you will need a plan to cover these ocassions.
Hi Mike:
I have an activities list that provides sample topics I can implemment on short notice with little preparation to use on those days when everything just isn't going as I planned. These all relate to my professional topics, and can be really invaluable when "that day" occurs.
Once in a while, I have found an optional back-up type activity that was so great, I began including it in the regular lesson. So I guess good things can come from bad!

This is a great idea, and as a teacher I am always looking for more of these spontaneous lessons that have such great appeal to a wide range of students.
Angela:
That was good advice. Something that can pulled off the shelf and implemmented with little preparation or resources, but is generally relevant to the class topic.

I was once told that it is always good to have a backup lesson plan that could be encorporated into any class day. these are activities that apply generally to the course as a whole and can be a real "ace up your sleave" in the event that you find yourself finishing up a lesson plan early or needing to redirect the class.
Hi Jack:
Good examples Jack. The point of the back up plan is to assure to the best of preplanning that students will get something meaningful for their money in the event of unplanned circumstances or situations. The more seamless it comes accross, the better.
