Troubleshooting Instructional Strategies

Having a back up plan is a great idea because there are days that things wont go like they should

Hi Gail:
Lab is a life saver. I think students never get enough hands on in the first place, so this is a great plan B kind of activity. Also, discussions, group study are good ways to engage students on short notice. They can discuss, then present to the whole class. Always works for me.

I've had that happen before. The project light burns out and now you've got no power points- so plan B must be used. Do you move to different room, or go to the lab and do stuff there, or do the lesson plan on the dry erase board? I try to have a backup plan aways in my head, but i'm lucky that i have a lab based class, and we can always go to the lab.

Hi Francis:
Great. We should be expectant of the best environment and prepare for the worst situation. In our preparation we are assuring the student will get their money's worth even if the regular resources are not available.

you never know when it will be necessary to use a backup plan. in addition I feel a backup also allows you as an instructor to utilize different teaching practices that you may not normally use in the lesson.

Hi Brian:
Of course. Power outage, burned out bulb, copier down, A/C or hearter not working, etc. We want to have somethoing thats pertinent and can used with short notice in almost any environment.
