Troubleshooting: Instructional Strategies

I always take inventory of my student's background and learning styles so I can modify or make adjustments to my delivery of instruction. This helps maximize their learning potential.

Hi Anthony:
Yes, mixing it up makes for both and interesting anmd more enjoyable learning experience. When students feel more comfortable, they're more likely to particiapte, contribute, work harder, and be more successful.

This is a great idea. You can also take a survey of the class, you will be amazed at what you will find. Varying strategies satisfies everyone

Hi Susan:
I'm always on the hunt for stuff thats just sitting around not being used. It never hurts to ask, and often a piece of equipment gets donated just for the asking!

Regards, Barry

I have had this problem, too, when teaching on-site classes. One suggestion is to try to get donations of used or older equipment for demonstration. Then you can update with info about what changes have been made.

Hi Karen:
There are alternatives. You can use photograpgh (from the text or internet), PPT's, or even if you have just one of something, handle it, pass it around, talk about it, discuss the good and bad. Once peice can do a lot. Another idea might be to ask a local company, business, or organization provide sample equipment on loan, for an afternoo, a day, a week, whatever. However long you have access, use it to it's maximum!

This is an excellent idea. I thought I had varied learnign techiniques but now realize ther is so much more. My problem at my school is not enough demo equipment for "hands on" activities

Hi Donald:
This is terrific. You are individualizing your students and their instructional needs. Your students will be more engaged and involved with their learning as a result. Good job!
