Helping Students When They Are Discouraged
I have some students that get bogged down by their 6th or 7th mod and just say it is taking too long too complete the program what are some ways I can encouage them to keep going even through the rough patches
I make sure I tell them first that I understand that it's difficult, but not to worry, because I am there to assist them. We then together develop a plan and work toward a solution- usually I agree to meet them an hour earlier or something for additional help.
I always encourage them verbally. tell them they can do it. if they need extra help then tutoring is also available in our school.
break the module up into smaller parts. Have them complete a portion and feel successful about one part and then move onto the next. I find that if I give students a specific task to complete by a shorter period of time, it helps them focuss and relieves frustration.
When my students get discouraged, I always refocus them on their original goal of what brought them to school. This seems to work!
