back up plan
always have a back up plan, just in case things don't go exactly as you thought. this will hel pthe class stay focused, organized and on track for successful learning.
Sherry,
Good backup plans serve two purposes, at least. One is to have something that can easily ans seamlessly be introduced when what has been planned cannot be done for whatever reason. Another purpose is to produce creative alternatives that help make the curriculum fresh and current. Some back up plans can be introduced to try them out -- sometimes they become part of the regular plan.

Backup plan In healthcare we always have backups plans. I teach a healthcare class so I have to have a backup plan I treat it just like a really life emergency got to move quick and be prepared for a quick change. You want to be able to always know your next step and to move to it flawless.
Daryl,
Repitition is never a bad thing. I agree students can always use extra time with hands on.

When there is extra time, I think it is a good practice to have the students repeat a technicial skill they have learned, even though they think they know it.
Kimberly,
Good back up plans are an instructors helper. They can be used to engage students when the class is getting ancy. They can be pulled out when whatever was planned cannot occur for whatever reason (technical problems, resources not available, etc.). They can be used when more time remains in a class period and the instructor wants the their students to be kept busy. These and many other reasons help demonstrate the great benefit of planning good back up plans.

Sometimes a couple backup plans are necessary too.
Jessica,
Back up plans can be life savers! Unfortunately we can't control all the various ways that our plans can get interrupted. So having an easy to implement activity that is low tech, related to the content, and can done on relatively short notice are the best.
