Phillip,

This is a great way to assess individual student learning styles. In addition, "Socratic questioning" throughout the lecture/demonstration can be effective in gaging the overall comprehension of the students, during a lesson.

Thank you for your post.

By reviewing the expectations of the project or objectives, letting them begin the projects (encompassing audio and visual) - then pausing them during the process. During the pause, I re-review the criteria and discuss with them, as a group, what (if anything) is detracting from their project.

This process typically takes up the entire class, and by allowing them to interpret the criteria, repeating the criteria during review, I can assess what their comprehension / retention level is and adjust future classes.

Many instructors have difficulty with diversifying their instructional approaches for development courses, however you have provided excellent examples of innovative and subtle techniques.

Teaching basic college math to new students enrolled in a career guided program requires various approaches for student engagement due to different student learning styles .Listed lesson objectives outlined on the board guide the students who may be structural and give a sense of “how the lecture flows.” Being prepared and outlining the lecture material prior to delivery is essential. By delivering the guided problems vocally as well as visually worked on the board, alluding to page number and problem set allows the visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning styles of students to interact and engage in problem solving.
