Documenting Your Lesson Plans
Writing our lesson plan I took into concideration that someone with less experiance than myself will have to teach this course as well. Putting in a step by step "how to" for the student anso helps with a covering or "sub" for the day
Leigh,
This is an excellent system for managing academic consistency. This system also works well with instructors for prerequisite courses.

Our faculty is a small group of highly collaborative instructors. When we are teaching different sections of the same class we share our lesson plans with each other & have very similar class overview plans. We try to stay together & cover the same material. We also share materials & worksheets. These strategies allow the students flexibility...if they miss their morning class the might sit in the afternoon version of the class with a different instructor & receive the same information.
this system makes everyone's lives easier!!!
It also makes documentation & consistency MUST!!!
The time invested is well worth the extra work :)
Darrell,
I agree. This makes for a "seamless" class session delivery. Students should not be limited on their learning experience because their instructor is absent, instead the substitute should be able to delivery the scheduled course content.

Having a binder with the lesson plan, activities and assessments for the day has helped me when a student states they never heard that before or no one told me. I use it as a back up to support that the information was covered and they actively participated in the subject area.
I am often called upon to "sub" for an absent instructor. Sometimes for a class I have not taught. Fortunately, a Instructor Course Content folder is available for the substituting instructor to open and find the lesson plan for that particular class which details the objective, procedure and rational for the class. Knowing this is of great assistance in maintaining the level of instruction.
This is the MOST valuable thing I have learned in my 2 years of teaching - document a plan. It nt only helps a sub but keeps me on track as well. I actually will use a copy of the plan and check off items as they are accomplishesd. This is especially important when I have been asked to teach the same course to 2 different groups of students,
Lesson plans, syllabus and calendars. The students are aware what is going to be taught and when things are due. It also keeps me on track. I also have everything I need in that subjects folder, syllabus, calendar, vocabulary power points, lecture notes, and homework.
I think this is very helpful if you have a sub. This can insure that the students are getting the info that they need and that you expect. So they can pass assesments later when the origanal instructor returns.
Troy,
I agree. It is important to design the course lesson plans, similar to "standard operating procedures (SOPs)", which are used in organization. With step-by-step or summarized direction, the lecture can easily be delivered by another, credentialed instructor.
