Allowing students to have input
What are your thoughts on allowing students to have input about activities & strategies on what will help them learn and retain information?
Students gain more interest in a class that values their input as a learner. Everyone has different learning styles and life experiences that can have a positive impact on the classroom/learning environment.
I think that allowing students to have input allows for them to have some ownership of teh lesson. If they want to learn about something it's much more likely they will take the time to do well.
Students learn with different methods and as an instructor it is important for me to keep an open mind about different activities that may help students learn. We can learn a lot from our students and as long as the ideas are reasonable and do not deviate us from learning objectives, I welcome student's input.
Christina-Rose,
I also try to find ways to implement student ideas. Once they notice that you are using their ideas (and crediting them), they become more engaged and encourage their classmates to participate as well.

I think it is extremely useful for the students to have input on lesson plans. I strongly encourage my students to provide feedback and tell me if I need to include more activities, or anything else I can do to make their learning experience interactive.
I think students can be very helpful in discovering new methods that may help in teaching them. I welcome input from my students and try to incorporate their ideas where applicable. Especially in the "digital age," this information has proven most valuable.
