Standards change

In my field new products and standards(codes)are being developed every day. It is very important to keep current with these changes so my lesson plans change with almost every class.

Our industry has standards intended to meet some goal. Professional boards review and change (update) these standards yearly. Newly developed equipment and applications must be added to any school's requirements for graduation if its students are to be effective (successful) in their careers. It is part of your responsibility as an educator to keep up with these changes. Not being up to speed on new technology can mean you will soon be irrelevant.

It is very important to stay up with current changes so your students can pass any accreditation test that they might have to take to work when they graduate.

My biggest problem is the time it takes away from the class. If I have a five hour lab and it will take most students another 6 hours of homework to finish that days assignment, then spending 2 or 3 hours going on feild trips puts us so behind.
Our school tries to plan guess speakers for the lunch break, they provide pizza as well and this seems to work out great for us.
We are not located in an area that has a lot of resources for the classes I teach.

Tonia, you hit the nail on the head. I know we must have change in order to have growth, but sometimes one wonders about the old saying "if it ain't broke, don't fix it".

I agree with that. I am in the medical field and see new things every day. Its hard to incorporate all the changes within the classroom.

In every coarse i believe that it is extreemly important for a school to constantly keep in touch with industry through surveys , field trips
guest speakers to find out what industry wants
and also to find out if your students are performing to level expected by industry.

It should be expected that the topic that one is lecturing on,reflects the most current information in that subject matter. This manner of preperartion will also intrigue and ecite your students.
