jim,
I agree with expanding the usage of student electronic devics, such as tablets. For copyright purposes, it is acceptable to provide your students with a link of desire "teaching video" (which they can access with their tablets) and the instructor will not have to play it in class.

TONIA,
This is an excellent suggestion. Is this an internet-based, interactive tool?

Michelle,
This is a great method for enhancing the learning experience for your students. In addition, visual learners will appreciate the detail in illustration and graphics on the instruction sheets. This could positively impact, the student retention of information.

The tablets are now a wonderful resource! They are attractive and catchy!
Also, something as simple as a small whiteboard (with erasable marker) is used when going around the classroom to answer questions. The tablets also have graphing functions which instantly shows the student(s) what the graph of the function looks like!
Youtube is packed with 1,000s of teaching videos!
Integrated Technology can be displayed through powerpoint presentations. Also, video display can be helpful to each student as the material is presented.
I use klickerz..it is fun interactive tool. it is questions with mutliple choice answers and they pick the answer..the correct answer shows up on the screen. They have instant results
I use a variety of ways to bring technology in to the course. I use powerpoints to demonstrate the course objectives and particular information in the material. I also let students present topics in class via powerpoint or another means of technology. I also use youtube videos to provide examples of the topic we are working on. Students seem to connect well with this method. My whole goal with the use of technology is to keep students engaged and keep the material interesting.
I've just started making instruction sheets available online with real color photos of samples. I used photoshop to add arrows and text to highlight the important parts of the samples. Usually we were using line drawings. The student response to the first instruction sheet was very positive. One student who was ill and absent the week we went over the sample in class was even able to perfectly replicate the sample on her own at home. She said she never would have been able to do it without the clear photos.
There are many ways to intergrate technology into the course, one of the most fun ways of intergrating technology into the course is implementing a game on the computer as use as a review. This has been a blast for my anatomy courses.
Jason,
I have used similar games for exam review, as well. It is interesting to see how eager the students are to study course material in preparation for a "review" session, based on their natural competitive instincts. It's worth giving up a few extra credit points, to ensure that the students are prepared for an examination.

LE,
This sounds like an exciting assignment. Providing students with the opportunity to apply their skills, within the context of an actual "business", enables them to understand why the material that they learned in their program is essential to their career performance.

Jeremy,
This can be a "tricky" situation...I believe that the first thing to do is to discuss the available budget with your supervisor. Sometimes there is a budget available for acquiring new materials/technology, however faculty and students may have to provide inquiry to administration.

I teach a Capstone Business course and I find that using a Business Simulation Program allows the students to utilize their knowledge to run a virtual business. The competition between companies and the challenge of using new skills is always exciting.
Jessica,
It is a great idea to incorporate the student portal, whenever possible. Also, instead of taking up important classtime, many assignments (quizzes, activities, etc.) can be provided online, which will encourage the students to use technology.

What are some best practices that work with out dated technology on campus.
Van,
I have also used this method during classroom presentation. I find that the students are more apt to actively participate during class, if they already have the information from the slides available to them. Whenever they have to take notes from the slides, they may spend more effort trying to "copy" the information than listening to the instructor.

I usually add some kind of technology when reviewing for a test. Such as a Jeopardy or Who wants to be a millionaire review game. Then I give out extra credit to the winner.
We try to teach our students using multiple learning styles. We use powerpoints as both a visual and auditory learning style. We use videos to demonstrate an additonal way to reach students. It allows the instructor to show techniques that might not be shown to students. It adds to the overall delivery.
