best teaching technique
from my experience in teaching in medical field , best method is to use more than one methods of teaching during your module and try to keep students exceited all the time to get a good result .
Hi Mark,
You have it! We have to be our students #1 fan. They look to us for more than just knowledge. They need encouragement from us.
Patricia Scales
Myself as an instructor, I truly believe my roll is to build excitement amongst the students and motivate them to use their minds to soak up the knowledge.
Hi Jeannie,
I love your positivity, and it is great to know that you still love what you do forty years later! I have been teaching for over 23 years, and I am just as happy as I was 23 years ago! Love teaching!!!
Patricia Scales
I absolutely agree. Unfortunately, it can't be forced. For the students to have fun, the teacher must also be having fun. I am lucky to have been in the classroom for over forty years. I still look forward to every class.
Hi Jeannie,
Students love having fun while learning. We should make learning fun every opportunity that we can.
Patricia Scales
I agree...the more fun I have the more fun the students have.
Hi Theodore,
Variation is key! Students are more engaged when a variety of methods are used to promote learning.

I agree that the best method is to use more than one method of teaching. I like to use lectures with a pause, this usually initiates a class discussions. I also use the power point presentations that come with the text. They are usually well written and helpful in conveying the text material. I also like to introduce problems and then call on different student to help solve the problem.
Hi Dr. David,
Whenever students can apply what they are learning to something that is going on in their life or have gone on, they tend to have a better understanding of it all, and thy will willing share the information with their classmates.

I teach courses in business law. To me, the subject is interesting, but to SOME of my students it is a walk through a jungle. I occasionally assign parts of a chapter to everyone in the class to prepare and deliver the subject matter to us in a panel or in an individual format. The students are more engaged, and they bring out various aspects of the topic being discussed with the class by the moderator and/or me as the instructor. They also reveal some personal situations with contract law that they have first-hand knowledge about. This seems to allow some of the less motivated students to get an appreciation about the subject at hand.

Hi Nikita,
Students enjoy hearing and sharing real life experiences that are applicable to the lesson.
Patricia Scales
I agree. Some of the different techiques I use with my students are real life experiences. It get the class engaed and eager to learn. Of course, switching up your lesson plan is always good.
Hi Shael,
Wow, I cannot imagine a student not responding when called upon. This type of behavior will not be tolerated at work. This student needs to be told of the unacceptable behavior in the workplace. I have a participation grade built into my syllabus that is worth 5%, therefore if they do participate they would get a zero for that day.

I teach accounting, business planning & a course in computerized accounting which is a how to course in using QuickBooks. I have found that a combination of lecture and "hands on" problem solving seems to get good results. However, in the business planning class we have the usual students who very quiet and even when they are asked questions, they do not respond. Any suggestions?
Hi Shani,
It sounds like you do a variety with your teaching methods. Sudents like it when we use variety in our teaching methods. Variety keeps students more engaged.
Patricia
I'm a paralegal instructor and I agree with all the above responses. I've used field trips, role play, mock trials, hypos, group work, and I'm very interactive so I definitely agree with this approach, and there were some really good ideas in this course about including lecture with interaction.
Hi Laura,
Wow, I can see how this type of learning can bring about great discussion, especially on a topic as such, and it was not gender divided. I am sure some interesting things were up for debating.
Patrica
I teach a Critical Thinking class and one quarter we had two Critical Thinking classes at the same time. So we decided to have a debate. The class divide up into two teams; they did research and organize their points. The debate was on "It's a Man's World." Both men and women debated for both sides. It was not men vs. women. The students had a great time learning.
Hi William,
Great idea as to how to get the students involved with the lecture.
