Getting students involve in active learning.
As and instructor during my lecture and my activities, when i come across a student that is quite and like to stay to him/her self i will do group activitis to get that student involved and to also express how important it is to work with others because in the work force he or she is requiered to work with and talk to others.
I agree that doing group activity encourages the quieter student to actively participate. The idea of keeping small groups is also beneficial to all the students because it forces verbal participation by all.

Yes I agree. I also try to make sure they are not over powered or over influenced by the more vocal students. Encourage them to share their ideas and voice.

I like to try the group setting with quiet students as well. I like to limit my groups to no more than 3 students so that more interaction is forced to take place.
