Active Learning

Active learning is very important when working with my students because it teaches them critical thinking skills.

Hi Jacquelyn,
Yes, with active learning students get to apply with they have been taught. We get to determine if students understand or not.

this type of activity allows our students to use more rationalization practices outside of the lecture setting

Hi Shawn,
I love how you brought out the cushion. Students are more readily to try when they know the instructor has them and other students have them. There is nothing like security!

Hi Angela,
Our students need as many exercises as possible to help them with their critical and analytical thinking abilities.

As an IT instructor I believe this to be very true as my style is hands-on. When the students make mistakes and have a cushion in the form of an instructor or a class to fall back on and assist with the solution it keeps everyone involved and active, which leads to other students wanting to get involved and see if they can troubleshoot and resolve a problem. Then students can take into account methods or thoughts on what another student did or did not when troubleshooting a problem or ask questions others might not have thought of in that aspect yet.
