times have changes

the times when your mom stayed home and cooked are done. we as instructors need to reconize this. our method on instructing should also change.. be real, who wants to sit for 6 hours when some one in teaching?? i know i didn't when i was in school. we need to reconize that what is ok in certain fields of work, ( IE.. a rough neck working on an oil drilling platform) the wording people use may not and probaly isn't prim and proper. now compared to a person who works a white collar job and who is more concerned about what time the tee time is for there golf game, isn't thinking "am i going too die??"
now i know wording is every thing, and curse words are curse words( too a point) , i ask you this ; if you got your fingers cut off becouse of some thing that happened at work(you were just doing your job,no horse play)and you used a few curse words, would that be ok?
i preach SAFETY SAFETY SAFETY.. you should only have to repair it once.(sometime you only have one chance to do it).
PS. this is only my view and shouldn't refleck on any company too which i am employed.

I agree, times do change. What is said in the heat of the moment do to an injury is understandable to a point, however, does this mean that everyday conversations should have the same type of verbage? Our job is not only to teach subject matter but to help these young people understand what is expected of them in corporate America. And yes an oil rig is a corporate environment if company brass is around. I see these students come and go with no clue as to what is acceptable and what is not. Each generation that passes we overlook a little more until you get to where we are now with an entire generation not understanding what being held responsible for your actions is. Go ahead and hold a new student responsible for their actions and you'll get an entire list of reasons why it's not their fault. It's the way they have been brought up, they don't know any different. When we were kids in school and got into trouble and went home, we were in trouble with our parents as well. Now if a student gets in trouble at school, they're told is't ok and the parents go after the school for being mean to poor Johnny. I agree that teaching safety is on the top of the list when preparing students for a successful future, but let's not for that respect and accountability plays a huge roll in their ultimate life's success. This is a great course thus far and I look forward to completing future modules.

Yes times have changed, technology changes very fast in the field, you must constantly, keep up to be the best, one thing though that that will probably never change is the fact that the automotive field is tough, not all can make it

Hi Joe, I hear where you are coming from but in todays world the customer is more and more asking the service provider to become more professional. Since we work and live in a customer service economy and the competition for the customer's dollars gets tighter and tighter we need to present as close as possible that professional demeanor as to put ourselves in the best position to win the customers business and therefore our livelihood

Wise words Joe, certainly in the society we live in today and with the blood-thirsty lawyers waiting to pounce, no employer can AFFORD to hire a graduate student that has not been infused with the need to work safe. Rather, with that requirement met, and especially where there may be customer contact, the need for "restraint" on the 'colorful commentary' becomes important. There is simply no reason that everytime someone wishes to emphasize a point he (or she) must use the "F" adjective.
