Modeling
During a Faculty training a few weeks ago, the Facilitator showed YouTube footage of "what not to do" as an Instructor. It amazed me at some of the things they did, how they dressed and often times were inappropriate. Being a "model" for your students is a key to gaining respect!
Hi Norma,
What a great posting of what teaching is all about. You hit upon the need for a total educational experience including both the hard and soft skills. We are models for our profession and we have to remember that at all times.

As instructors we have a responsibility to make sure that our students not only learn the information to pass their classes and gain employment, but also to teach them the professionalism necessary to retain their future employment positions.
Oftentimes, students are able to excel in the "hard skills", but it is the "soft skills" they struggle to learn; and instructors often overlook.
Every day, from the moment we enter the parking lot of our respective schools, our job begins. Not only for those students specifically in our classrooms, but also for the students on campus.
We are living examples of what is to be expected and our reactions and interactions will shape the students we teach and come in contact with. They look to us as icons of our professions.
The information presented in this module clearly defines tools every instructor, regardless of experience, should study to ensure they understand that our responsibility is not just to the schools we work for, but to the professions our students will one day become members of.
Our reputations go with them. Every student we teach and train is a reflection of our commitment and dedication.
