I certainly agree with your opinion of a successful instructor. One's success can be measured by the number of students that learned in one's class whether or not he or she is motivated and not by the teacher's intellectual ability or popularity.

In my opinion, a good instructor is one that can step out of his/her frame of thinking and see things from several different perspectives. Sometimes a student will tune out an instructors guidence if he/she feels that the instructor is wrong or if the instructors views and the students views vary slightly. A good instructor must be able to see things from a students perspective to better understand were the student is coming from and steer him or her down the right path instead of telling the student that he/she is wrong. By doing this, you build up the students confidence in asking questions and for instruction.

Hello Rachel:

I truly agree with you. Unfortunately, some of our students perceive "successful" instructors as role models when they "give in" to their wishes- that is being lenient in marking papers, allowing them to come in class late or leave early.

Truly, an instructor that engages students to learn, enthusiastic to come to school and be challenged are the true "successful" instrustors. They clamor not for popularity but for challenging events in the classroom.

I agree with you 100%. It is not the most popular instructor but the one that can think on their feet and be able to deliver the message in many different formats.

Thanks for the insight and encouragement, Rachel. I am a new instructor and feel inadequate when I compare myself to the veterans. But I think I can reach the students and I want to teach them as much as possible.

Hi Rachel,
You reinforce a very good point about the most successful instructors are those that can teach. It is that connection with that learner and the rapport that follows that will bring forth the maximum learning which in the long run will enable each student to achieve personal success.
Gary

that is totally truth rachel, because there is not much of credit to the instructor who has good estudents and he can work with, the credit is to get bad students (no motivation) and make them a good estudents and then work with them.
