How to treat other people

Treating other people the way you would like to be treated sets a standard for students to aspire to. If students can see this modeled for them by instructors will they follow that example or not ? I think so by saying exactly what you mean and by always meaning what you say!

Hi Sandra,
Good standard by which you can govern your life. We need to keep this in the front of our minds as we deal with students and go about our daily lives.
Gary

I have always believed in this standard. I teach my children this and I also apply this in my class room and in my job during the day. I really believe it will bring you success when you treat others the way you would like them to treat you.

The instructor sets the tone for the class. If the instructor treats the students with respect, the students will treat the instructor with respect.

I have always believed to lead by example. If the student sees and trust what you do,there is always respect given. If you the instructor has none to be given, you should not be there anyway. I was told a long time ago by my mentor, at the time, Remember, they are all still kids and kids need alot of attention.

One thing I have found out with the students. Show them you actually care about what they are trying to achieve. I have done this and the rewards are worth the effort, wait their is no effort just ask "hey how is your day is there anything I can do to help you." Wow that was easy.

This is such a true statement. In so many institutions, the staff treats adult students as if they were children. But yet, the staff expects to be treated with the utmost respect.

Alot of times that is exactly how i run my classes

I also believe that if you treat the students with respect that they will in turn show you respect.
I also believe the learning should be fun, so i kid around with the students and take there kidding back as that they are having fun aswell as learning.

Treating our students with respect, and showing them that we truly do care about them, and their success, will in turn gain their trust, and respect. No one likes to be bullied, or talked down to. How we treat our students will determine our success as instructors.

I have found out over the years that if you treat people like you want and expect to be treated they will respond in like terms. NEVER, NEVER cut down someone, for any reason in public or private. I will come back and haunt you. I have had success in the majority of my classes by appying this. I try to teach to the students the way that I would like to learn. I realize that not everyone learns the same way, but I ensure that the subject is covered, and there is no doubts of what the subject is. The students that need extra attention, they get it. I will stay after class, during lunch or what ever is needed to make sure the subject is understood. So far this has worked for me, I have been teaching Automotive Brakes and Suspension now for 5 years, I use the lab to reinforce what I discussed in class.

Display respect and integrity. We are modeling behavior for our students.

we may know more about a specific topic but that does not mean we are a better person

Common courtesy along with good common sense should tell anyone that it is easier to catch flies with honey than with viniger.
I don't beleive it needs to be any more complicated than that.

Phil

It stems from the way we were brought up. If you give respect you get respect.

Professors’ responsibilities extend beyond the classroom to include out of class associations with students and other professional activities. Members of the teaching profession should have a strong sense of the special obligations that attach to their calling.

That is true. Don't do to oher what you don't want others to do unto you.

You need to treat students with respect like people you interact with. By respecting one another we can deal together without any problem. we'll also know our limits.

Frank if feel the same but it dose not happen to often.

I to believe in this very strongly! It developes a level of respect that is needed in the class room.
