Being a good role model, Mangager And Motivate all in one as you present youself to a class of twenty to thirty students that you have a short time for them to see you as the big three M's Instructors, Develeping ones self never ends.
The instructor should always be a professional and come prepared for class.Life is to never stop learning and teaching.
Being a good role model is not only important for class controle, but can help you develop a reputation. Students talk with each other and say both good and bad thinks.By being a good role model and being fair in your encounters with student,being understanding of there needs,being patient in talking to student even when they want to know why the sky is blue and tell you about there 300 years of experience.You make your job easier each time you go before another class.
Good information Hank what I would like to add is that as technical school instructors most of us come from directly in the field. This means that we need to make some changes in ourselves and want to become instructors. This could mean when it comes to applying the 3 M's of instructor development that the instructor is going to have to make difficult decisions obout how to act and respond you are now apart of managment not just a coworker. When we have made that decision the improvement then becomes a part of the job.
One other factor here is the idea that the students need to realize that the learning is not just for now or today but a continuous process they need to follow to be successful in any field they choose. By constantly keeping yourself abreast of current material you can instill in them the value of this learning journey...
Too often I think they focus on the moment and forget that each day is only a timeline on the endless trip through life. Times change, technology changes and we must change...Change is good...
Insructor must be uptodate with knowledge.
Everyone is saying a good role model shows the students a good example. But, remember instructors are humans & humans make mistakes, we need to show students that when we make a mistake own up to it & correct it. Also, a good role model must have a sense of humor.
