Profesionalism, knowledge, and skills.
Developing these three qualities in the students is always a chalenge but worth the instructional effort to promote a well rounded student.
Hi Denesica,
Presenting yourself as a professional is essential for student success. They need to have model for the career they are preparing to enter as well as a model of how quality teaching can be done.
Gary
Always represent yourself as a professional. Make sure that you are knowledgeable and skilled in the topic you are presenting.
Hi Brenda,
You are very much on target about conveying principles and concepts to students. Not only does this benefit the professional development of students but helps to establish rapport with them as well. They see you as someone that reflects the model behavior and skills needed for success.
Gary
Hi Brenda,
Well said about the professionalism aspect of the profession. I wish all instructors and their students understand this as well as you do. I know your students benefit greatly from your attitude and effort. Keep up the good work.
Gary
Instructiional efforts to convey these principles should challenge educators to maximize all teaching strategies available. Educators must remember students are watching every aspect of preparation, delivery, knowledge content and technical proficiency exhibited by the instructor. Students come to the classroom with a desire to "take away and emulate" the information, technical abilities and behaviors the educator presents.
This principle is paramount in instructing nurses. Nurse Educators must exemplify professionalism, knowledge, and skills in the classroom and clinical setting to role model, motivate, and covey the behaviors associated with professional nursing. Nurse educators are preparing future health care professionals who must be competent in all three of these areas.
I think that by always keeping up with current trends as well as studeying the old we can see where we were and where we are as well as where we need to be so we can get the necessary information to teach what nneds to be learned, if that makes sense.
Yes some students have that ability and other struggle because they have disabilities, we need to consider those students and get the tools as instructors so that we are prepared for those students that want to give 100% however can not do so.
Hi Cheryl,
Thanks for sharing your insight about what it takes to be a teacher. You gave a comprehensive picture of what you are expecting of your students while giving them a realistic picture of their upcoming career. The big plus is the great feeling you get when they succeed. Keep up the good work.
Gary
it is always important to give to your students the understanding of what the job intails like beign profesional and to always have knowledge in the particular field they are going into. If we give the skills needed to our students and give everything we have, students will excel in everything they due from the moment they start school till the day they graduate and they will give 100% to the rest of there lives. And that is the best feeling in the world to me as an instructor.
