instruction style

is it necessary to explain the students very well

I find it depends on the class on how far you have to explain some students pick up the topics fairly quickly others struggle.

Hi Kimberly,
Great idea to list such characteristics and then see if you are modeling them for your students. This will help you create that all important connection between you and them. I am sure out of this comes the development of much rapport for the students.

I just read the next section, where it suggests to do the above activity. Hahaha, so I guess I was a little ahead of the curve--but on the right track.

Connection is vital. I started thinking about what appealed to me when I was a student/adult learner. I pin pointed which teachers I connected with the most, then asked myself "why?" I wrote out their characteristics--the traits that made them role models for me. My list included: Personality, Comfortable Level, Skill Level, Communication, Criticism, Knowledge, Fairness, and Consistency.
This helped me to analyze and rethink how I try to connect with my students.

Hi Michele,
You are right about the need to create a connection between you and your students. What have you found to be the most effective way of doing this?
Gary

I agree, if you connect and they gain your respect, they and you will get more out of the class and better understanding.

i think that the instruction style of each teacher is whats atracts students to take your class, if your style of teaching is acomodating to their needs it will make the teaching and learning experience more powerful

for me instructional style one of the best tool yopu have as an instructor to gain the students attention and respect, if they conect to you by the way you teach, they will get more out of your class.

You have to have a style students are comfortable with. I have found that taping your lectures and listening to thjem again is usually a great idea.
