Teachers As Role Models
We are role models to out studets
As an instructor professionalism is a key to success. Starting from your physical appearance, your mannerism, coming to school well prepared and respect to your co-workers as well as students , and maintaining you integrity it conveys to everyone how good you are as a role model to your students.
By showing students our characteristics, standards, and ethics, we can infuence our students in a positive way. The student will see us as this role model and we should not dissapoint them. We should use this to motivate them.
Hi Amy,
That is one of the great things about being a model. We model the human aspects of our lives as well and make mistakes. These mistakes can be learning moments for our students. We can show the mistake we made make it a teachable moment and then move on to another point. The students can use this approach to improving their own lives and skills.

Hi Stephen,
Your last sentence says it all. They do need instructors they can believe in. This is so important if we as instructors are to believed and followed as experts in our fields as well as individuals of character.

I agree 95%. I believe that we should be role models, however, we should make our students aware that we make mistakes. Having a little humility can be a learning opportunity as well.
I agree 100%. We must be positive role models to our students to help them to be successful. It is very important to teach and lead by example. By teaching to do as I do and not do as I say we give the students a positive example and also reinforces to them that we are not asking them to do anything that we are not willing to do ourselves. They need to have instructors they can believe in.
