I would continue to seek information on how to ehance my teaching skills and apply them to the classroom.

I use several media influences in my instrctional style.

I am a hands on demonstrator, as well love a good discussion. The process of watching the lights come on in these nursing students eyes when they realize what is going on or is currently happening to their patients. I also enjoy introducing topics that they may have not heard before and then break it down and then build it back up to their level of comfort. The review of my classes by peers , students and administrators..

Thanks,

Tom

Yes I woild agree a mentor is very good idea

I like my students' to take a survey at the end of each course to make sure they are recieving the information in a way that works for them. I ask them what is working best in my class and what may work better. I also encourage feedback to both help me ,to make sure I am addressing my students needs.

I adjust my instructional style by student reviews and input and testing results and suggestions by other instructors.

Our campus uses a teaching model,PLM, that provides numerous examples of successful techniques.

Ditto, I agree I find instrustional styles change a bit with each class. Taking the direction of the students needs or class personalities.

Lead by example is a good way, we always should follow the best practice

I like to involve students as much as possible in the learning

I like group discussions on real life issues as well

Learning is a two way street, we learn from them and they learn from us, they also learn from each other

Using your professional experince will be significant in thier understaning of what they should learn

agreed, they shoul dbe kept up to date on any changes and of teh direction you are taking them

I have found that understanding and creative are key in good instruction

emphasize and read material

The course I teach is directly related to the field I work in, which is Human Resources. My style is to relate an actual event or story relative to the topic I am teaching. The students love the stories and actually remember what I teach them because they can relate it to something real. I also encourage my students to "grade" me on evaluation forms so I can address any area that might need attention. For example, my students complain all the time that my course is too short (I just love that). By the third class I have students saying "tell us a story related to that topic."

Hi Jennifer,
You have a clear grasp of how you want to develop as a professional educator. The use of the term lifelong learner really helps to set the stage for this. We have to be lifelong learners in our business. If we aren't we soon will be left behind in our field as well as our instructional knowledge.

Hi Deanna,
It is great to hear that you have such a supportive Student Services office. They can be so valuable to both you and your students. They have resources that can be pulled up and put into place at a moments notice which is critical for some students.

Hi Kanokchez,
Right you are about how certain people can have a dramatic impact on our lives. As educators this is even more so. We are helping our students to create futures for themselves. This is a big responsibility. By being a mentor we help to shape, encourage and support our students and their development.
